Today's Mediocrity is Yesterday's Exceptional

​I once read an article about a favorite character of mine that claimed he was the most human character because of the struggle he faced. His Shakespearean character flaw wasn't being too trusting or being a womanizer; it was mediocrity.

It is a constant struggle for all of humanity to be anything better than lukewarm or second place. You struggle enough to avoid being bad, but being good is too hard  so you live your life exceptional at nothing. You are just like everyone else. 

I am just like everyone else. I am no devil or saint. I am no failure nor success. It is an exceptional struggle to be unexceptional: to never grasp yet eternally reach. The problem is mediocrity is eternal, as tomorrow will never come because every new day will be just today again, so will each new accomplishment just surplant a new mediocrity. 

Mediocrity, thus, is not our innability to accomplish but semblance of our eternal struggle with each new thing we face. Today's mediocrity is yestersay's exceptional, and though tomorrow may never come, things will always change.
