Support and Friendship

I walked into the Capital Towers the first day not knowing what to expect. 

"A room full of new people and new personalities,” I thought. I was so excited, but I was also nervous what the others would think of me. My heart was racing as I got into the elevator and pressed the 13th-floor button. When the elevator stopped, I walked out, faced my fears, and walked into the Youth Media Project office. 
 
Since then, I have learned many people's names and gotten to know them much better. I am very social, and I found it was very easy for me to make friends. The people here are so open to new things, and I love that. Being around different people with different ideas really helps me to better understand the way others think. One of the biggest things I've learned is to listen to different people's opinions and views on things. Understanding why they think that way can help us in our writing. We can't be so one-sided on things; we must get the whole story.

The amount of support and friendship between the members of YMP is amazing; we've only been in this program for a couple weeks, and a bond is already starting to grow. When we want to get something done, everyone contributes in some way and helps get the job done. I am grateful for the people in Youth Media Project, they are helping me in more ways than they know. With this program, I will have previous experience in the journalism field that I will need in college and later on in life. Being in YMP has helped me to learn the benefits of working with a diverse group of people; when working on a project, the results are much better than if you would have gone it alone.
 
I look forward to doing many new things with the Youth Media Project this summer. I really look forward to going out and meeting new people during interviews. Listening to people to and learning new things is something I enjoy because it gives me a chance to glance into other people's lives.
